Roman Super is a journalist, writer, and creator of documentaries. A graduate of Moscow State University’s journalism department, he worked as a correspondent on RTVI and then, for five years, as a reporter for the program A Week with Marianna Maksimovskaya on REN TV. In 2013, Super received the prestigious Russian TEFI award as the best television reporter. He has written for Esquire and GQ and published a book, Of the Same Blood. Super has directed several documentaries, which received major prizes at international festivals from New York City to Cannes. He is the winner of the Artdocfest, Redkollegia, and Journalism as a Profession awards.

“Modern Emigration from Russia�

Project Summary

Roman Super’s project focuses on the new wave of the Russian emigration. What are these new emigrants seeking and what are they trying to leave behind? Can one compare the new Russian emigration to the large migration waves of the past time periods and centuries? Would it be correct to use the term “refugees� when talking about these new migrants with higher education degrees? To answer these questions, Super is seeking to interview new emigrants from Russia, learn about their new lives, try to understand their motivation, and observe how their businesses are or are not developing in their new home countries. The working title of the project is “An Escape Plan.� A book with the same title is expected to come out as a result.
